ECPN Travel Scholarship
The Society for Prevention Research ECPN Scholarship Program is now accepting applications for the 2009 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.

All applications are due by Friday, March 20, 2009.

Program Purpose: The SPR/ECPN Scholarship Program is designed to provide support for researchers early in their careers to attend the Annual Meeting of the Society for Prevention Research. (See http://www.preventionresearch.org/meeting.php for annual meeting details and registration).

The meeting and these scholarships are funded in part through an R-13 grant funded by several institutes of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Eligibility: Eligible candidates must be members of SPR. Candidates may submit membership applications at the same time as their scholarship application (https://secure.preventionresearch.org/membershipapplication.php). Candidates will be selected by the ECPN Steering Committee based on need and whether or not the candidate will be presenting at the annual meeting.

Awards: In past years, we have been able to accommodate the majority of ECPN'ers who applied with some amount of support, typically granted as a "lump sum" to cover costs associated with travel, lodging, meals, and registration. So that we can assist as many people as possible, the awards are generally limited to $500 for domestic members. ECPN will make a concerted effort to notify applicants via e-mail of awards by April 6, 2009.

Please note that eligible applicants may also apply for the SPR Minority Scholarship Program. However, only one or the other award, not both, may potentially be awarded.

The application deadline is 5:00 pm, ET, Friday, March 20, 2009. Scholarship applicants who are not SPR members will not be considered.

Applications should be sent via e-mail to dj@preventionresearch.org or by fax to DeeJay Garringo, Membership Director, at 703-359-7562. Application must be received by March 20, 2009.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jennifer Lewis, Executive Director, at jenniferlewis@preventionresearch.org or call her at 703-934-4850, ext 213.

Minority Travel Scholarship
The Society for Prevention Research Minority Scholarship Program is now accepting for the 2009 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA.

All application materials are due by Friday, March 20, 2009.

Program Purpose: The Minority Scholarship Program is designed to provide support for students and researchers of color to attend the Annual Meeting of the Society for Prevention Research (http://www.preventionresearch.org/meeting.php). The Program is designed to expand the pool of students and researchers of color interested in the field of prevention.

Eligibility: Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens who are members of the following underrepresented racial/ethnic minority groups: African American, Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American Indian/Alaska Native. Candidates will be selected by the SPR Minority Scholarship Committee based on need and whether or not the candidate will be presenting at the annual meeting. Awards have typically been in the $500 range, but we have occasionally awarded more funding, depending on circumstances. As always, special consideration will be given to those who are new to the field of prevention. In addition, membership in the Society for Prevention Research is required for consideration. Candidates may submit membership applications (https://secure.preventionresearch.org/membershipapplication.php) at the same time as their scholarship application.

Awards: Scholarships will be based on need to be used towards expenses associated with attending the Annual Meeting (such as airfare, hotel, meals, etc.). The Minority Scholarship Committee will make a concerted effort to notify applicants via e-mail of awards by April 9, 2008.

Please note that eligible applicants may also apply for the SPR ECPN Scholarship Program. However, only one or the other award, not both, may potentially be awarded.

Additional information: If you have any questions or need further information, please contact the Chair of the Minority Scholarship Committee, Paula Smith at Paula.Smith@utah.edu or (801) 581-6017.

The application deadline is 5:00 pm, ET, Friday, March 20, 2009. Scholarship applicants who are not SPR members will not be considered.

Scholarship applications should be sent via e-mail to DeeJay Garringo, SPR Membership Director at dj@preventionresearch.org or by fax to 703-359-7562. Application must be received by March 20, 2009.
