is now accepting applications (http://www.preventionresearch.org/minorityscholarship.pdf)
for the 2008 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, CA.
materials are due by Friday,
March 28, 2008.
Purpose: The Minority Scholarship Program is
designed to provide support for students and researchers of
color to attend the Annual Meeting of the Society for Prevention
The Program is designed to expand the pool of students and
researchers of color interested in the field of prevention.
Eligible candidates must be U.S. citizens who are members
of the following underrepresented racial/ethnic minority groups:
African American, Latino, Asian/Pacific Islander, and American
Indian/Alaska Native. Candidates will be selected by the SPR
Minority Scholarship Committee based on need and whether or
not the candidate will be presenting at the annual meeting.
Awards have typically been in the $500 range, but we have
occasionally awarded more funding, depending on circumstances.
As always, special consideration will be given to those who
are new to the field of prevention. In addition, membership
in the Society for Prevention Research is required for consideration.
Candidates may submit membership applications (https://secure.preventionresearch.org/membershipapplication.php)
at the same time as their scholarship application.
Scholarships will be based on need to be used towards expenses
associated with attending the Annual Meeting (such as airfare,
hotel, meals, etc.). The Minority Scholarship Committee will
make a concerted effort to notify applicants via e-mail of
awards by April 9, 2008.
Please note that
eligible applicants may also apply for the SPR ECPN Scholarship
